Ljubljana won the European Tourism Digitalization Award for Smart Tourism 2020
On Wednesday, 9 October, a gala event in the framework of the European Tourism Forum in Ljubljana presented the prize for digitalisation of smart tourism in the European capital, 2020.
In addition to the two overall winners - Gothenburg (Sweden) and Málaga (Spain) - four cities have been recognized by the Europe 2020 Smart Tourism Awards for their outstanding achievements in four categories. In the pre-selection phase carried out by independent experts, these four cities received the highest scores in each of the 35 requesting cities.
The European Accessibility Intelligent Tourism Award of 2020 went to Breda, The Netherlands; Sustainability Award wins & nbsp; Gothenburg, Sweden; Cultural Heritage and Creativity Award wins & nbsp; Karlsruhe, Germany and the Digitalization Award in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The jury was impressed by Ljubljana's various smart solutions, including the official tourism website with a wealth of content and applications - in particular the tap water application for locating city-wide fountains and Ljubljana by Wheelchair.
The European Smart Tourism Capital is an initiative launched by the European Commission to increase the visibility of Europe as a tourist destination and to provide a platform for the exchange of best tourism practices between European cities.
By awarding the title, Ljubljana has been reassured that it has been able to renew and improve the city for its citizens over the year and is a travel destination. In addition, it has once again become an inspiration for other tourist destinations across Europe.
