Ljubljana will host Velo-city 2020
Christophe Najdovski, President of the ECF, announced the milestone of this year's event and unveiled next year's conference, June 2-5, 2020, on the topic of "Smart Cycling Engagement".
Originally held in Mexico, Velo-city 2020 has transformed host cities into Ljubljana following a unanimous decision to discontinue Mexico's Velo-city contact for "external reasons that were unforeseen at the time of selection".
The capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, is a fast-growing city with a clear vision of creating multi-purpose, shared facilities and leading the way in quality of life. The aim of Velo-city 2020 Ljubljana is to disseminate high-quality information on cycling, to promote global best practices, to integrate cycling into relevant policies and to encourage greater use of cycling.
Marcio Deslandes, Director of ECF Velo-city Series and Global Policy, said: “We are very happy to have Velo-city in Ljubljana in 2020! The city has a lot to learn about shared space and how to make cities livelier and more inclusive. "
The conference attracts academic experts, decision-makers, local, regional and national governments, international institutions, civil society organizations and local cycling associations to network and exchange ideas in the cycling world.
Zoran Janković, Mayor of Ljubljana, added: “I am pleased that the 2016 European Green Capital, Ljubljana, dedicated to sustainable development is organizing such an important bicycle conference.
“We are proud that our progress in the field of cycling has been recognized by international experts and that the European Cyclists' Federation has entrusted us with the organization of a meeting to highlight the latest activities, guidelines and actions in the field of cycling in cities. "
